Deathday Celebration: Reunion in Valladolid

Saturday, April 23, 2016 - 4:00pm to 6:00pm
UA Poetry Center, Rubel Room 1508 E. Helen Street Tucson, AZ 85721

April 23, 1616 marked an incomparable extinguishing; it is the day the world lost both Shakespeare and Cervantes. Join us for an engaging, edifying, and kaleidoscopic examination of the worlds of Shakespeare and Cervantes, as seen through the eyes of Anthony Burgess and his classic short work “A Meeting in Valladolid,” a story in which a fictional Shakespeare and Cervantes actually meet and discuss suffering and the enduring power of art.

Song by Anthony Burgess performed by Jeremy Huw Williams (baritone), Hugo Vera (tenor) and Paul Fan (piano). With commentary by Dr. Meg Lota Brown and Dr. Faith Harden.

Reception to follow.
