Cocktails with a literary twist, for UA Humanities alumni and friends. 

You read extensively, you have well-informed opinions, you enjoy a spirited dialogue over drinks.  The College of Humanities has planned its annual Homecoming soirée with you in mind!
 
Join the College of Humanities in downtown Tucson for its annual Homecoming Tasting, at La Cocina Restaurant in the El Presidio Historic District.
 
With “chats” by select Humanities faculty, plan to expand your appreciation of imaginative cocktails linked to Zen poetry, Russian literature, Ernest Hemingway, and Baudelaire. Absinthe sugar drip demo and hors d’oeuvres are included.

When:  Friday, November 4, 2011, 4:30-6:30 pm
Check-in begins at 4:30.
First presentation begins at 5:00 pm
 
Where:  On the patio of La Cocina Restaurant, 201 N. Court Avenue. Parking is available at meters on surrounding streets, and is free starting at 5:00 pm. Click on the image below to view map.

Cost:  $25/person. Admission covers the cost of cocktails and passed hors d'oeuvres. Please register by clicking the link to the right; your registration fee is not tax-deductible.

Deadline for all RSVPs:   Wednesday, November 2, noon.  This is an over-21 event:  bring photo ID.

*No doubt you can conjure up a cocktail name or type which reflects a literary character, theme, or era; or perhaps a specific book or author.  We will collect all the clever suggestions and short explanations, acknowledge them at the soirée, and give a prize to the most clever entry. 
 
Send your suggestions to pbrooks [at] email [dot] arizona [dot] edu, with subject line “Clever Cocktail.” Include the name of your cocktail, any suggested ingredients (if part of the cleverness), and the specific literary reference.  Explain the reference in one or two sentences, or as needed. Deadline for submissions:  5:00 pm, Friday, October 28, 2011.  You must be registered for the soirée to be considered for the prize.
