Celebrate 100 years of UA Homecoming with the German Studies Department!
 
Join the College of Humanities as we honor German alum in a day focused on all things German. Come for one event or stay for the whole day.
 
11:30 a.m. Homecoming BBQ Bash
Location: UA Mall
Cost: $35 (Tickets available online at alumni.arizona.edu)
 
2:00 p.m.  Collegiate Showcase: “From the Past to the Future: Why is Germany Doing So Well Today?”
with Dr. Albrecht Classen, German Studies Department
Location: Student Union Kiva Room
Cost: Free!

Many countries have struggled to survive the economic crisis in recent years, but Germany has fared far better than most. Based on world records of economic success since 1949, Germany is booming ahead. There are many reasons for this phenomenon including basic cultural and economic conditions in Germany’s long history since the Middle Ages. In fact, the past has helped to shape future developments, with one eye backwards, and the other eye turned forward. Learn how Germany’s past perspectives can help us understand modern conditions.
 
3:30 p.m. Coffee Cantata/Kaffeekantate and Poetry Center Open House
Location: Poetry Center, 1508 E. Helen Street
Cost: Free!

Join us for coffee, struedel, and conversation, with musical pieces from Bach’s Coffee Cantata/Kaffeekantate. Coffee donated by Starbucks.
 
6:00 p.m. Novemberfest
Location: 415 N. 4th Avenue
Cost: $15 (buy your tickets here)

Enjoy an evening of food and drinks – all German-inspired – on the beautiful back patio at Café Passe. Reminisce with former and current classmates, faculty and friends of the German Studies Department. You won’t want to miss this fest!
 
Celebrating College of Humanities Alumnus of the Year, Eric Baker, German Studies Class of ‘84
What do you do with a degree in humanities? After obtaining his bachelor’s degree, Eric went on to earn his J.D. from the Roger’s Law School and now works for Starbucks as their Head Corporate Counsel for the Northeast Region.
