Parents
Parents of Language Fair competitors are MOST WELCOME to attend the Southern Arizona Language Fair!
Parents are allowed into the competition rooms, and are encouraged to attend the Awards Ceremony at the end of the day, to celebrate the honors won by their students and schools.
There are many enjoyable opportunities for parents and community at the Southern Arizona Language Fair, to keep you busy outside of the competition schedule:
- Visit booths in the plaza to interact with College of Humanities graduate and undergraduate students and faculty , and gain information about studying language, literature and culture at the UA. Booths also offer games, crafts, demos of language software (made at the UA!), and bake sales with multicultural themes.
- Watch performances in the sunny plaza by drum groups, Brazilian capoeira, Chinese dragons, musicians, and more.
- Attend information sessions presented by the Office of Admissions and other UA units, to learn best practices for preparing your student for college and to find out about admission practices and policies at the University of Arizona. Other sessions will focus on the value and importance of majoring in language and other Humanities disciplines. Check this site periodically in the weeks before April 2 to find specific session titles. These sessions will also be listed in the on-line official Fair Program, and will include location and times of sessions.
- Sample French pastries, then…
- Exercise with a game of bocce, or “kick a goal,” and more!
- Wander into the Modern Languages Bldg. auditorium to see great stage performances by students in kindergarten through college: dancing, singing, music.
-
Visit the Fair Art Gallery in room 141 of the Pacheco Integrated Learning Center (ILC), the building located under the Mall surface. The student art work is always spectacular and inspiring.
-
The Fair is planning special sessions and booths for you on topics such as: preparing your students for college, the advantages of majoring in language and other Humanities disciplines, and study abroad options at the University of Arizona. Come meet graduate students, current undergraduates majoring in the Humanities, UA faculty, and specialists from UA admissions as you take advantage of the full-service opportunities of the Southern Arizona Language Fair.
- Encourage your students to also take full advantage of the Fair by preparing well to compete, visiting all the Fair booths, asking questions of the professionals on campus that day, and bringing their best game to the judges.
The annual Southern Arizona Language Fair is a day to celebrate the many achievements of Arizona students in second language learning and multicultural awareness. It is an opportunity to recognize the importance of global training, at an early age. Come join in the celebration! We look forward to meeting you.
