Arizona language instructors are invited to prepare students K-16 to compete in the Southern Arizona Language Fair, in its 15th year held on the University of Arizona campus.  

The Competitions: Poetry/Prose Recitation, Drama, Art
 
The Languages: All second languages, including ESL and ASL. The competing student must currently be receiving instruction in a class of the competition language at the time of the Fair.
 
The Awards:

  • Participation certificates and gifts to all students who compete on April 2 
  • Ribbons, and recognition to top student winners at April 2 Awards Ceremony and through media
  • Special awards for top winners in art competitions, ribbons to all art competition participants
  • School trophies for top drama presentations
  • Professional Development Certificates for participating language teachers

The Multicultural Fun:         

  • Music and dance groups in Fair Plaza
  • Booths and activities from UA language/culture departments and
  • programs and select community projects
  • Special sessions for PARENTS and TEACHERS, including information about    
  • college prep, maximizing students’ language learning at the UA,     
  • and more

General Information:

  • Students currently taking a second language class can be registered to compete in poetry/prose recitation, drama, and/or art.
     
  • Read through all COMPETITION RULES, sample SCORE SHEETS, and other INFORMATION FILES in the appropriate sections. In addition, The WELCOME LETTER covers many important details.
     
  • REGISTER your students online by February 25th, 2011.

Registration is free, and is processed on-line starting on January 3, 2011 at: http://humanities.arizona.edu/language-fair/registration

Registration deadline: 5:00pm, February 25, 2011
 
To minimize cancellations, language instructors are asked to emphasize the COMMITMENT to competition to the students, and to register students only if they pledge to follow through on appearing and competing at the Fair on April 2, 2011.  Please also be attentive to your local school requirements, such as the timely collection of signed permission slips.
