East Asian Studies

The Department of East Asian Studies is dedicated to the study of the cultures and languages of China and Japan. The rich cultural heritages of the region are covered by courses in literature, history, society, religion and thought, linguistics and other aspects of culture.

Study Abroad 

Putting language skills to practice in a real-world setting is key to language learners. The Department of East Asian Studies strongly encourages students to study in a Chinese-seapking country or in Japan. The UA offers a variety of study abroad programs in China, Taiwan, and Japan.

Career Opportunities 

The East Asian Studies major provides graduates with a particular advantage working in an increasingly globalized world. Graduates work in every industry in the professional world including: education, business, interpretation, public relations, psychology, the sciences, arts and culture, and more. Graduates may also choose to enter law school, medical school, or a multitude of other advanced degree programs.
