The University of Arizona is home to a premier department of Russian & Slavic Studies and offers the only graduate program in Russian in the greater Southwest region.

The Department of Russian and Slavic Studies offers a Bachelor of Arts with a major in Russian. It provides instruction designed to develop competence in the Russian language, awareness of cultural traditions, and an understanding of literature and the arts. All Russian conversation courses are oriented toward developing proficiency skills as determined by nationally recognized proficiency guidelines.

Study Abroad 

Cultural immersions allow students to enhance their language skills in a real-world setting. The department encourages students to study abroad and provides opportunities for Russian language study in the former Soviet Union, including language study programs and internship possibilities in Moscow.

Career Opportunities 

Russian majors leave equipped with language and cultural skills that are transferrable to any industry. Graduates work in a variety of careers in the professional world including: education, business, interpretation, public relations, psychology, and more. Graduates may also choose to enter law school, medical school, or a multitude of other advanced degree programs.
