January 11th, 2019

Three College of Humanities professors are assuming leadership roles in the Modern Language Association and Association of Departments of Foreign Languages.

German Studies Department Head Barbara Kosta was elected to the executive committee of the Association of Departments of Foreign Languages, for a three-year term from 2019 to 2022.

Professor Katia Bezerra of the Department of Spanish and Portuguese, and Chantelle Warner, Associate Professor of German and Second Language Acquisition and Teaching, were elected to the Modern Language Association’s Delegate Assembly.

Bezerra will serve in the Global Portuguese forum and Warner will serve in the Applied Linguistics forum.

“Traditionally, the College of Humanities’ faculty has been very active in major national and international professional organizations. These most recent elections attest once again to the world class reputation of our scholars,” said College of Humanities Dean Alain-Philippe Durand.

The previous year, French and Italian Department Head Denis M. Provencher was elected to the Delegate Assembly, serving on the Francophone forum. In 2016, Abraham Acosta, Associate Professor in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese, was elected to serve on the 19th-Century Latin American forum.
