Spanish and Portuguese Faculty Promoted

One professor in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese has been promoted, demonstrating excellent performance in teaching, service and research.

 

Dr. Miquel Simonet is promoted from tenured Associate Professor to tenured Professor. He received his Ph.D. in Romance Linguistics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

 

Dr. Simonet is an experimental, laboratory phonologist, employing the auxiliary theories and methods of instrumental phonetics and experimental psycholinguistics to investigate phonological competence and representation. His main area of expertise comprises bilingual and second-language phonological competence, which analyzes the production, perception, and processing of the sounds and structure words in emergent bilinguals.

 

He currently serves as Associate Editor of Journal of Phonetics (2022-2025) and previously served as Associate Editor of Applied Psycholinguistics (2018-2021).
