In commemoration of the WWI centennial, several University of Arizona departments have come together to host the interdisciplinary WWI Symposium & Reading, "Beyond National Narratives: A Holistic and Intercultural Look at the War to end all Wars." While the bygone century has brought forth numerous, significant changes to the face of human civilization, few have so directly involved such a large portion of the world’s population as this devastating conflict. The significance of WWI has transformed it into an important point of orientation in the national narratives of many nations—particularly of those located in Western Europe and North America—where management of the national-scale image of WWI finds new public spotlight with the approaching centennial.
