The College of Humanites and Department of French & Italian is hosting the first Arizona Graduate Conference in French on Feb. 23 and 24.
The conference begins with a free public screening of the French-Mauritanian film Timbuktu, on Friday, Feb. 23 at 4:30 p.m. in ILC 120.
The film will be screened in the original version, subtitled in English. The 2014 Timbuktu was selected to compete for the Palme d'Or in the main competition section at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival and nominated for an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.
Director Abderrahmane Sissako won seven awards at the César 2015 and two awards at the Cannes Film Festival 2014, among others.
The conference and film are organized with the support of a College of Humanities Teaching and Outreach Grant.
