Classics
The M.A. program in Classics is one of the premier M.A. programs in the field in the United States and attracts qualified students from all regions of this country and from abroad. Students in the Classics M.A. program choose from emphases in Classical Philology, Classical Archeology, Ancient History, Ancient Religion, and Latin Philology and Pedagogy. Graduate students work with faculty with expertise in the languages, literatures, archaeology, history, religions and cultures of the ancient Greek and Roman worlds.
East Asian Studies
The Department of East Asian Studies at the University of Arizona offers programs leading to the Master of Arts (M.A.) and the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degrees with majors in East Asian Studies. Graduate training in East Asian Studies affords students important opportunities for careers in academia, education, research and consulting, international business, international law, and government and diplomatic service, among others.
French
The Master's programs in French and Francophone Studies prepare students for a variety of options in diverse fields, including teaching and non-teaching careers in higher education, K-16, or pursuing doctoral studies. Students gain relevant knowledge through courses in literature, film, culture, theater, pedagogy, linguistics, and critical theory, and have opportunities to participate in an exchange program in France and be a Teaching Assistant in our Summer Study Abroad program in Paris.
German Studies
The Department of German Studies offers an MA in German Studies and a binational PhD Program in Transcultural German Studies with the University of Köln and the University of Leipzig, Germany. The programs are focused on intercultural issues through literary, cultural, and applied linguistics studies. Research is conducted in second language acquisition and teaching, multilingualism, medieval studies, gender, Black, Jewish, environmental, migration and decolonization studies as they relate to German Studies.
Russian and Slavic Studies
The Department of Russian and Slavic Studies offers a diversified and balanced program of study that leads to a Master of Arts degree. The Department of Russian and Slavic Studies provides high-quality language, literature, and culture instruction, imparted from a humanistic perspective, that prepares students for life in an increasingly complex and international world.
Spanish
The department offers Master's and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in Hispanic Linguistics and Spanish Literature and Cultural Studies. Graduate students have the opportunity to engage in research, assist with Study Abroad programs, and teach Online and Heritage languages. Other opportunities include summer teaching and research travel funding. The vibrant academic environment features events like speakers, conferences, and colloquia that promote intellectual growth and idea exchange.
