What role does poetry have in envisioning, articulating, or challenging our ecological present? What role does poetry have in anticipating, shaping— or even creating—our future? Aracelis Girmay will discuss poetry and climate change and how it affects her life and writing. Girmay is the author of the collage-based picture book, Changing, Changing, and the poetry collection Teeth, for which she was awarded a GLCA New Writers Award. She taught youth poetry workshops with Community~Word and DreamYard for the past 10 years, and currently teaches poetry at Hampshire College and in Drew University’s low-residency MFA program.
