Join Albrecht Classen, University Distinguished Professor of German Studies, focusing on the Middle Ages and the early modern age for a talk titiled "Medieval Theology and the Early Medieval Media Revolution."
Classen serves as the editor of the journals Mediaevistik and Humanities Open Access and has written about 100 scholarly books and 650 articles. This talk will discuss the "Book of Kells," which is one of the oldest illustrated Irish bibles and one of the most spectacular medieval illustrated manuscripts. The stunning images, marginal drawings, initials and many other features make this book a bibliophile masterpiece of extraordinary quality. It reflects stunningly on the enormous cultural, artistic and economic strength and spiritual power of the early Irish Christian monks who were later to spawn Christianity on the European continent.
