Poetry Center Shop Talk on the work of poet Wisława Szymborska

When
11 a.m. to noon, Nov. 7, 2012

Rebecca Seiferle, author of four books of poetry and editor of The Drunken Boat, leads a discussion of the work of Polish poet, essayist, translator, and literary critic Wisława Szymborska (1923–2012). Szymborska, who received the 1996 Nobel Prize in Literature, was called “the Mozart of poetry” by the Nobel Committee.

Shop Talks take a "round table" approach to scholarly investigation of poetic works, resulting in a collegial atmosphere. Each Shop Talk begins with a mini-lecture on the featured author, followed by a conversation about the author and the work. A study packet containing biographical information, excerpts, and criticism is made available for each event, and no advance knowledge of the poet or works discussed is required. All discussions take place at 6:00 pm around the Persian rug in the Dorothy Rubel Room. For more information, email Wendy Burk at wlburk@email.arizona.edu.
