COH & Africana Studies Partner with KXCI for Black History Month

The College of Humanities and Africana Studies Program extend a heartfelt thanks to KXCI Community Radio for the partnership to celebrate Black History Month. 

Each Monday during February, KXCI's Home Stretch program hosted a professor from Africana Studies to discuss a particular topic related to Black History Month, how it relates to their research and teaching and share some songs that illuminate those subjects. 

On Feb. 5, Praise Zenenga, director of the Africana Studies Program, spoke about the intersections of Pan African music and poetry/theater. 

On Feb. 12, Bayo Ijagbemi, associate professor of Africana Studies, spoke about jazz, Afrobeat and a Afro-Latin jazz. 

On Feb. 19, Erika Gault, assistant professor of Africana Studies, spoke about the intersections of hip-hop and religion, specifically Christianity in African-American communities. 

On Feb. 26, Jerome Dotsonassistant professor of Africana Studies, spoke about the intersections of hip-hop and food.
