Graduating Ambassador William Rogers is Thinking About the Big Picture

What do Accounting, Entrepreneurship an East Asian Studies have in common? They are all degrees earned by College of Humanities’ Ambassador Will Rogers. Will graduated in December with a 3.8 GPA and spoke at this year’s Winter Pre-Commencement. He is also a recipient of the Presidential Award of Excellence Scholarship and has served as an Ambassador for the College of Humanities since March 2012.

In addition to his academic credentials, Will also interned at the Army and Air Force Exchange Services at Davis –Monthan Air Force Base and currently works at the Department of the Interior-US Geological Survey in the Arizona Water Science Center.
In the summer of 2013, he even ventured abroad to study in Taipei. “It was all really fun,” he said of his studies in the College of Humanities. He especially enjoyed the courses in Chinese linguistics and credits the enthusiasm of his professors for cultivating his proficiency in Mandarin Chinese. As if his accomplishments were not impressive enough, he is also fluent in Spanish and one day hopes to use his linguistic skills and Humanities background to pursue a career overseas.

“When I met people in China, I could always find a way to connect with them,” he said, praising his Humanities education for helping him to acclimate to new surroundings. Before looking to return abroad, William is pursuing several internship opportunities this coming spring and summer to help him gain necessary entry-level accounting experience.

By pairing his Accounting and Entrepreneurship degrees with his major in East Asian Studies, William is thinking about the big picture. “There’s a lot of flexibility and I’m not confined by anything.”
