Dear colleagues, students, and friends,
I am very happy to announce Prof. Karen Seat as the next Director of the School of International Languages, Literatures, and Cultures (SILLC) in the College of Humanities at the University of Arizona, effective September 12, 2016.
Dr. Seat is currently Associate Professor of Religious Studies, specializing in transnational American religious history, American evangelicalism, and gender studies. She has been on the faculty of the University of Arizona since 2001. In 2012, Dr. Seat was appointed as the director of the Religious Studies Program, and since 2015 she has been serving as the head of the Department of Religious Studies and Classics. Her current research focuses on conservative Christians' engagement with U.S. politics in modern American history.
In collaboration with the SILLC Associate Director and SILLC units’ heads and program director, Dr. Seat will oversee the interdisciplinary connections, strategies, and outreach/engagement between the School and other units on campus and the community, as well as a strong commitment to diversity/inclusion, and the recruiting of majors and minors. In addition, along with COH’s Assistant Dean for Business-Finance Toni Alexander, Dr. Seat will oversee the SILLC Business Team.
Please join me in congratulating Dr. Seat and welcoming her to the position of Director of SILLC.
Sincerely,
Alain-Philippe Durand
