Oceans and Deserts 2015: Charting Transdisciplinary Currents in Environment and Culture within the Arts and Sciences

Friday, March 6, 2015 - 5:00am to Saturday, March 7, 2015 - 10:00am
Kiva Room, Student Union Memorial Center 1303 E. University Blvd Tucson, AZ 85721

To continue the successful and overwhelmingly positive reception of the inaugural Oceans and Deserts Conference 2014, the graduate students of the Department of German Studies are proud to announce the second annual Oceans and Deserts Symposium: Charting Transdisciplinary Currents in Environment and Culture within the Arts and Sciences.

Taking the mutual interrelation between culture and the environment as its object of study, Oceans and Deserts spans the sciences and humanities by bringing scholars together to interrogate how these interrelated influences unfold in specific contexts. Its transdisciplinary approach promotes inclusivity and the destabilization of institutional boundaries that enable disciplinary insulation. Oceans and Deserts seeks to render the uniqueness of a given disciplinary approach transparent to other fields, encouraging a more robust dialogue and consequently a more nuanced portrait of the world around us.
